Manchester Phoenix officials have received confirmation from the EIHA that Jaakko Hagelberg will serve a total of a three match suspension following his ejection from last Thursdays' game against the Milton Keynes Lightning.
Hagelberg was dismissed in the 30th minute of the EPL Cup first leg semi-final game for Accidental High Sticks, a transgression that under the current rules is levied with an automatic Match penalty and suspension.
Under the toting up system of penalty points incurred for major penalties, having passed ten penalty points, Hagelberg will also serve a further two-game suspension.

This league encourages gay euro-hockey.
I find it quite ridiculous that you can be penalised more for accidentally catching an opposition player, than you are for intentionally attacking someone with your fists. i just don't see the logic at all.

Hi All,
I just wish that any high sticking penalty would have the word "accidental" removed from it as it gives the impression that it diminishes blame, hockey players must at all times have control of their stick. This is a game played by men with weapons in their hands, whether they use them as weapons is a different matter, but the sanction imposed is an attempt by the authorities to make sure that players keep control of their sticks.
I cannot comment on Jaakkos infraction as I didn't see it due to the sight lines.
Pete
