Hi All,
As a point to discuss,
Ed Courtenay didn't play this weekend yet we got a four point weekend. My viewpoint is that he doesn't seem to put as much effort into playing as he should do, he is head and shoulders the best player in this league if he puts his mind to it. As this is a development league intending to bring on British talent he isn't the best example to the younger players by the way he plays.
Any comments?
Would I have him as the coach, in a heartbeat.
Pete

Apparently his knees are shot - so to have him as bench coach would be a great idea!!

I heard from somewhere that the reason that he missed the weekend was that he "snowed-in" back in the States (although I can't remember where the rumour came from).

this where i disagree with some of my colleages
as long as he puts biscuit in back of the net, i dont care if he does little else.
But what i would do is put him with a couple of the youngsters so that they can do his tracking back for him

For me, Ed is the ideal guy, but possibly only for this term.
It was always going to be up in the air, how we fared this season (luckily, we're fairing ok i'd say). What we definitely needed, was somebody to make sure we had a regular haul of goals, on top of Tony's usual haul of assists. Even if Ed seems to struggle tracking back, and doesn't look the most motivated of players, there's not a bone in my body that thinks he's here for a free ride.
Its pretty clear that his physical condition is dipping as he nears retirement from the sport, and by all accounts, his knees are buggered, so back-tracking and sporadic, impressive bursts are never going to be his forté.
He's helped us settle into the league at the right end (so far), and his words in the dressing room and on the bench will have benefitted the younger end of our roster.
As for next year, we'll have a better idea of what we need in the league and Tony's recruitment will reflect that. Which leads me to think that even if Ed did continue to play beyond this season, Tony wouldn't sign him.
